Sparks was born to be in media. The day Sparks was born, his birth announcement aired on WFAA-TV in Dallas, where his father worked as a news producer for almost 20 years.
Sparks followed in his father’s footsteps while pursuing his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin. While in college, he was an intern for “The Joan Rivers Show” and “The Maury Povich Show”. He later worked as a news intern at WNBC Television in New York and WFAA Television, both in the station’s Austin bureau and in Dallas.
After graduating from college, Sparks worked as a News Producer at KGBT Television in Harlingen, Texas; an Associate Producer at KPRC Television in Houston; a News Producer at KOCO Television in Oklahoma City; an Overnight News Anchor & Associate Producer at KFOR Television in Oklahoma City; and then a News Producer at KTUL Television in Tulsa, WFTV Television in Orlando, and WFTS Television in Tampa.
Following WFTS, Sparks worked for Tampa International Airport. He assisted with content development, maintenance, and security updates to the airport website after September 11th. He then worked for Citibank as a sales trainer. It was while he was at Citi that Sparks returned to get his MBA, with a specialization in management, from The University of Miami.
Under the guidance of the best leadership professors in the country at The University of Miami, Sparks got bit by the teaching bug. He returned back home to Dallas where he worked briefly as a public school teacher and then decided to combine his passion for technology, journalism, business, and education to start his own business, Online ImageWorks.
When not providing one-on-one coaching, consulting or speaking to groups about Twitter, you can find Sparks in the classroom. He has taught courses in online journalism, media writing, and broadcast news writing as an adjunct professor in the Mayborn School of Journalism at The University of North Texas.
